Les Kletke has spent nearly 30 years in the business of agriculture information, as a broadcaster, journalist and extension agent. Les still owns the family farm he took over in 1980.
He was the secretary of a group of farmers that considered building a pasta plant and chose to buy an existing plant, which they later sold to a major food manufacturer. The process gave him insight into the value added process and grocery marketing.
Les was commissioned by International Development Agency to study entrepreneurship and co-operatives in Nepal. He brings those lessons home to Manitoba.
Les has continued to study agriculture throughout his career informally in the 38 countries he has visited and more formerly as a Nuffield Scholar and winner of the Asia Pacific Journalist Award. He believes if you eat you are involved in the business of agriculture.
In 2013 Les was chosen as Canada's representative to the Global Farmers Roundtable in Des Moines Iowa which brings together 15 farmers from 15 countries to discuss technology. He remains active in that group in contact with farmers from around the world as they face food safety issues in their country.
Les has authored 8 books about international agriculture and his travels.
Today he works as a book coach and ghost writer helping people turn their ideas into books with his company Global Ghost Writer which has clients across Canada and the US as well as Germany, South Africa and Dubai.
Les holds a degree in Economics and a Diploma in Agriculture both from the University of Manitoba. He was recognized by the School of Agriculture with the Certificate of Merit for his lifetime contribution to agriculture.
